More about Jake

Driven by a relentless pursuit of truth and a desire to spotlight urgent social issues, Jake founded SOWN to give voice to marginalized communities and inspire meaningful change. Through the nonprofit, he uses filmmaking as a tool for impact—creating documentary films at no cost for nonprofit organizations around the world.

SOWN began, as many meaningful projects do, with a big “What if?” and an enthusiastic partner: Sony. During COVID, Jake envisioned helping a single organization by donating his skills and approached Sony to ask for equipment support. They didn’t just say yes—they greenlit an entire campaign. For the past two years, Jake and SOWN have partnered with Sony’s Create Action Grant Program, a community-based initiative that amplifies local organizations through funding, support for emerging photographers, and the creation of powerful films for winning nonprofits.

  • Jake’s filmmaking journey has taken him to more than 50 countries, where he has met inspiring people from all walks of life. His work—spanning documentaries and narrative films—explores inequality, social justice, and human resilience. Known for blending raw emotion with striking visuals, he has earned industry recognition, including Clio and Musicbed awards, and created award-winning commercial work for brands like Pepsi and Chevrolet.

Beyond filmmaking, Jake is a compelling speaker who motivates others to take action. He believes that giving our talents freely, with no strings attached, unlocks deeper joy and purpose in our own lives.

The Future Belongs to Storytellers Jake Viramontez keynote speaking topic

The Future Belongs to Storytellers

The world demands more content, but what it truly needs are better storytellers. As AI visuals create noise, the rarest skill will be crafting meaning that moves people. Filmmaker Jake Viramontez shows marketing teams, entrepreneurs, and creatives how to transform communication using his storytelling framework, revealing timeless patterns to inspire action, spark connection, and elevate both brand and human experience.

“Saints and sages since the beginning of time have spoken of generosity. It wasn’t because they believed in freebies or handouts, it was because they understood the immense power that generosity has on the human experience.”
